My name is Rachael Baird and I am a senior majoring in genetics with a certificate in global health at the University of Wisconsin-Madison graduating in May 2014. This web page was produced as an assignment for Genetics 564, a genomic and proteomic genetics class. I chose to study obesity for my project because it is such a prevalent problem in our country and leads to countless other diseases affecting nearly every organ system. The fact that some people are overweight despite exercising and eating healthy diets has always intrigued me and points to a genetic aspect of the disease. As a future physician with an interest in preventative medicine, I know that finding better treatments or screening strategies for obesity would have a profound impact on many people's health. Following graduation, I will be attending the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western University for medical school where I look forward to developing the skills and knowledge to treat diseases such as obesity. Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or feedback.
